Boulder Culture
A good gathering
takes all of us.
A few shared expectations for making people feel welcome and taking care of the places we meet.
Make room.
Welcome someone arriving on their own. Let them into the conversation without putting them on the spot. Different backgrounds, experience levels and ways of joining in belong here.
Respect a boundary.
Ask before touching someone or taking an identifiable photo. Accept a no without pushing. No harassment, discrimination, threats or unwanted attention. A singles hike is an invitation to meet people, not an obligation to give anyone your time or contact details.
Look after the place.
Follow the host’s instructions, venue rules and posted restrictions. Keep access clear, take your litter with you and respect neighbors. At car meets, keep cars parked: no racing, burnouts or street blocking.
Choose your own pace.
Participation is voluntary. Read the activity details, consider your experience and fitness, and bring suitable equipment. You can sit something out, slow down or leave. Tell the host if you’re leaving a hike or ride so nobody is looking for you.
Outdoor and physical activities carry risks, including falls, traffic, uneven ground, weather, altitude, equipment problems and interactions with other people. Serious injury is possible. A social host cannot remove those risks or decide whether an activity is suitable for you.
Speak up.
If something feels wrong, tell the host or write to leo@boulderculture.org. Hosts may ask someone to stop an activity or leave for unsafe or harmful conduct. For an immediate emergency, call 911.
